It’s a Special Episode of The Ink Panthers Show! as Mike and Alex creep nervously back into Panther’s Lair to discuss Mike’s new book, Angie Bongiolatti. They have a fun insightful conversation about all the heavy political aspects of the book, as well as all the sex scenes. The Panthers talk about the creative process, getting at what’s really rewarding about writing long-form comics (hint: it’s not the part when you’re done with them), as well as a few announcements, including information on Mike’s new(ish) podcast.

Don’t worry, after all the comics chat, there’s a few minutes leftover in the show to get down to some Classic Panthers Slushery. Easter egg hunt stampedes, strange encounters on the subway, a city of Hobo’s toilets. Man, we missed these guys!!

We’re doing something a little different this week, Minneapolis based cartoonist Will Dinski is on the show, and we’ve broken up the episode into two parts, like the rapper Nelly and his famous double-album release SUIT and SWEAT (put them together, it spells SUITSWEAT). SUIT is part one, and it’s a Classic PRO T.I.P.S! style conversation about making comics. Give it a listen, then load up part two, SWEAT, where things get crazy…

By popular demand, Tony “The Desert Panther” Consiglio is finally brought into the Ink Panthers pro-T.I.P.S! professional lounge for a freewheeling discussion about his comics and career. Hear how he and Alex met, hear about Tony’s experiences in art school, and learn about the time a man’s leg came crashing through the ceiling at the deli Tony once worked at. A must listen! I was happy to welcome TwoTime Ink Panthers Show guest Dustin Harbin into the Professional Panther’s Lounge for a chat about his comics career. Since getting to know Dustin, just a few short years ago, he’s made the transition from Comics-Dabbler, to Full-Time This-Is-How-I-Make-My-Living Cartoonist, and this was a nice opportunity to check in and see how that’s going. Spoiler Alert: Dustin reveals pretty early on that it’s not been great for the bank-balance, but towards the end of our chat he also reveals he’s been tapped to host the Ignatz Awards at this year’s SPX Festival, so it’s not all doom and gloom. OK! This is both nerve-wracking and exciting. Welcome to “PRO-T.I.P.S!”, a special new Ink Panthers Show “feature”, if you will. These are going to be occasional episodes where we bring guests to sit down with one of us to actually chat about comics… and also their work processes, and their lives, and approaches to their art, and whatnot. At least, that’s the idea. We’ll see how it goes…

First up on the Panther Couch is Gabby Schulz, who regular listeners may know was recently in The Lair to tell us all about Freeganism and his noisy radiator. This time he comes on to talk about his work, his politics, and his certainty that we are all indeed doomed. Comments welcome!
