Come on! Hulking out is cool but don’t you wanna see him smash stuff? Didn’t you dig when he ripped that car apart and used them for boxing gloves? But yes, both those movies were very poorly made.
I guess it really does just come down to shoddy movie-making. I am sure there’s a good movie that could be made about the Hulk, but nobody’s done it yet. I really do think that he’d work best like he was used in The Ultimates: kind of a jerk as Bruce Banner, and then this rampaging force of nature when he’s the Hulk.
Maybe that’s one of the problems with the movies. When he Hulks out, nobody ever really gets hurt. There’s lots of buildings getting smashed, and cars being destroyed, but he’s not actually killing anyone. I know this is because we need him to be the protagonist. But, when there’s never any sense of real danger, I find action movies fall apart. Indiana Jones 4 is one of my favorite examples of this: after they fall over the 12th waterfall and everyone is OK, you stop caring.
I haven’t read a Hulk comic in a while. How are they using the character these days?
